I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read that took place long ago. This book had a very affective theme about judging others. Once you started reading this book, you could really get to know the characters and look at Connecticut from their point of view. The author provided information on Kit and Nat so that the reader actually felt like they knew them. This book had mystery and danger at every turn even though it revolved around normal people. Overall, The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Speare was interesting, adventurous, and an amazing read.

A wonderful childhood favorite. I read this story at least once a year. Awesome characters and three romances plus a very detailed look at life during colonial times. Highly recommended. I first read this story in fourth grade and fell in love with it. I have read all of Ms Speares works, all are very good.

Was assigned summer reading for my daughter. She loved it. Great story, appropriate content fir a 10 year old. She liked the story. Reading level was about fifth grade so it was a bit easy but enjoyable.

The title is deceiving - could be off-putting to parents of elementary aged children, but it is a beautiful story of historical fiction - life in America in the 1680s - the hardships, friendships, that true faith is patient and kind. Loved it!

I first read The Witch of Blackbird Pond years ago while still in elementary school, and somehow found myself thinking about Kit, Nat, and the rest of the characters today. I was so pleased to find it available for download, and that while muted from a grown up perspective, still an enjoyable read. My own children have enjoyed my reading it to them, and it has lead to some interesting discussions on history, religion, and many other subjects.

I really enjoyed this book. I will certainly recommend it to the librarian at the middle school where I work. It had interesting history lessons of colonial America. Very thought provoking topic of freedom of religion. In addition, a nice little love story to keep the younger reader interested.

Our daughter home educates their children and this is on the list of books they are required to read. After reading it I understand why. The year is 1687 in colonial Connecticut where we meet a young orphan and experience an adventure with her. I love historical novels and this one was excellent. The reader discovers details not shared in history books. Great for adults and children alike.

I remember seeing this book title in the YA section of the library when I was young, though I didn't read it at that time. I now teach Early American Literature, and I really appreciate these books that give my students a sense of place. We've been using Kathleen Kent's The Heretic's Daughter, but The Witch of Blackbird Pond tells just about the same story with more accessible content. It's certainly just as appropriate for adults as for young people.
The story moves at a quick pace and gives a realistic sense of setting. It covers themes from the time period such as religious intolerance, hypocrisy, the slave debate, fear of outsiders.
I highly recommend this reading for anyone interested in late 1600s Early America. Read it on your way to visit historic Salem, Mass.

This story is about kindness, overcoming fear and dealing with predjudice based on ignorance. It is about doing the right thing, realizing there are consequences. Very well written and good story line development.

This was an amazing book! It was so descriptive allowing my to see all of the small town. Kit and her constant battle between herself and her uncle really expressed the competitive spirit in many young girls. By the end you really feel for Kit and her relationships. I would recommend this book to all young women weather shy or courageous this book can find a way to entertain you.
